feature get checked: chevron Canada supports men’s health

The Prostate Cancer Centre estimates one in six Alberta men will develop prostate cancer. Through programs like the MAN VAN®, the Prostate Cancer Centre is keeping men and their families informed about men’s health, while also supporting their health journey.

To support our workforce and the communities where we live and operate, Chevron Canada sponsored the mobile van to bring free health screening and PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) blood testing to the Towns of Whitecourt and Fox Creek.

“Working together with our community partners, we were really pleased to bring this service to our employees and members of the community who otherwise wouldn’t have awareness or access to proactive testing,” said Jacqueline Harris, social risk and investment advisor at Chevron Canada.

The MAN VAN®, Canada’s first and only mobile testing clinic, was set up at Chevron Canada Whitecourt and Fox Creek office locations, the Whitecourt IGA – Valley Centre, Fox Creek Healthcare Centre, and the Allan and Jean Recreation Centre across visits in May and September.

Through the mobile clinic, approximately 90 men received blood pressure, waist circumference and blood glucose level testing—risk factors for developing heart problems as well as other health conditions. Mental health screening was also offered.

Men aged 40 to 80 were also eligible for PSA blood testing used for early detection of prostate cancer.

“Talking about men’s health can be a struggle, and it can impact the mental and physical well-being of our workers,” commented Trevor Johns, occupational health nurse at Chevron Canada. “When we’re able to take care of our well-being, we can focus on the task at hand, and that matters when it comes to being safe on our work locations.”

Chevron Canada is proud to support our people and the communities where we live and work. Together with the MAN VAN®, offering free, confidential proactive screening is one way we are encouraging the conversation around men’s health.
