press release Chevron’s Fuel Your School Program Extends to All Public Schools Across Greater Vancouver

Program to generate up to $565,000 to support classroom projects in local public schools

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, September 1, 2016 - Chevron Canada Limited (Chevron) announced today that its 2016 Fuel Your School program will be made available to all K-12 public schools in Greater Vancouver. The annual program, now in its fourth year, is an innovative collaboration between Chevron and My Class Needs, a Canadian charity that uses a crowdfunding website to support students and teachers.

Starting September 6, 2016, public school teachers can post their classroom projects online at My Class Needs for possible funding. Throughout the month of October, Chevron will contribute $1, up to a total of $565,000, for every 30 litres of fuel purchased at participating Chevron stations. Chevron’s contribution will be used by My Class Needs to help fund classroom projects and distribute materials or supplies to the classrooms. This year, teachers at K-12 public schools in the following districts are eligible to apply to the program: Vancouver, Richmond, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey, Delta, Langley, Coquitlam, Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows, and New Westminster.

"Teachers are increasingly looking for new and innovative ways to engage students in meaningful learning opportunities and we have decided to extend the program to all school districts across Greater Vancouver," says Adrien Byrne, Policy, Government and Public Affairs representative for Chevron. “We are pleased to once again partner with My Class Needs to provide additional resources and support the specific needs of individual classrooms across the region."

Since the program launched in Canada in 2013, Fuel Your School has contributed $1.8 million in funding and supported 778 teachers in 233 schools in British Columbia. Last year alone, the program benefited more than 54,000 students across the region. The program funds eligible classroom projects that involve science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education. Fuel Your School highlights Chevron’s continued commitment to education, particularly in the areas of STEM. It is estimated that 70 percent of Canada’s top jobs require some form of STEM education.

"We're thrilled to extend the program to new parts of the region and allow more students to benefit from innovative classroom resources." says Amy Coupal, CEO of My Class Needs. “The impact of these resources can be significant. For example, in 2015, a group of students participated in an international robotics competition with the help of class robotics funded through Fuel Your School. This year, new students from across the region will have the opportunity to explore their curiosity and grow their interest in exciting ways. Our hope is that this program will continue to help teachers and enrich the learning experience of students across the region."

The program is a part of Chevron's overall support for education, which has totaled over $300 million worldwide since 2013, helping to provide students with the critical skills they will need to succeed in the jobs of the future. For more information about Fuel Your School, please visit

about my class needs foundation

My Class Needs is a registered Canadian charity created to support students and teachers in publicly-funded schools by providing resources that enrich their learning experiences. Following the crowdfunding models of other successful organizations like or Kickstarter, presents a user-friendly platform where teachers post descriptions of class projects, as well as the expected learning outcomes. Donors can contribute to the project(s) of their choosing and help promote them within their networks. Once a project is fully funded, My Class Needs purchases and coordinates its delivery. Teachers report on the success of their project and may create thank you notes for the supporters of their projects, which My Class Needs then delivers to donors.
