Improving safety in Newfoundland and Labrador's offshore energy industry and helping disadvantaged adults acquire skills to obtain meaningful employment are two worthwhile causes that Chevron Canada is proud to support.

Chevron recently joined with two of its community partners in Atlantic Canada to affirm its support for these two important initiatives as well as the company's long-term commitment to Atlantic Canada.

On June 23, Chevron announced it was donating safety and survival equipment, valued at approximately $447,000, to the Offshore Safety and Survival Centre (OSSC) at the Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University of Newfoundland.

The donation includes a fully enclosed 60-person lifeboat, similar to those used at offshore oil installations, for at-sea survival exercises as well as a significant amount of personal protection equipment (PPE) ranging from bunker jackets and pants, boots, hard hats and gloves for use by clients and instructors in training exercises.

"Today the Marine Institute is not only thanking Chevron for this donation of survival equipment, but also for their long-term support of OSSC’s training expertise and for partnering with us to advance safety in Newfoundland and Labrador’s offshore industry," said Glenn Blackwood, vice-president, Memorial University (Marine Institute).

"Chevron Canada is pleased to support the Offshore Safety and Survival Centre and the critical role it plays in ensuring the safety of the workforce in the province's offshore energy industry," said Mark MacLeod, Chevron Canada's vice president, Atlantic Canada. "This life-saving equipment will provide long-term benefits to the OSSC and to the industry which we are proud to be a part of."

Stella's Circle

On June 20, Chevron Canada announced it will donate $450,000 over the next three years to Stella's Circle, a leading non-profit community organization in St. John's. The funds are earmarked for the Employment Services Division, which offers a range of employment and education programs and services to over 450 participants each year.

The announcement was made at the official launch of Clean Start, a commercial cleaning business and new social enterprise initiated by Stella's Circle. Clean Start helps individuals gain the skills required to obtain meaningful employment in the office cleaning and maintenance business.

"Chevron Canada continues to support Stella's Circle because they consistently demonstrate clear results," said Chevron Canada's Mark MacLeod. "Building partnerships is a core value for Chevron Canada. Through our partnership with Stella's Circle over the last 11 years, we have been able to accomplish so much in the community."

Lisa Brown, CEO of Stella's Circle, said: "The best social program is a job. Chevron's generous donation has enabled us to run CanDo, an employment service that was created for individuals with complex multiple barriers to employment.

"CanDo provides supported and transitional employment in the community which allows participants to receive skills and confidence to be able to find employment." Last fiscal year, 90 participants received jobs thanks to the support of Employment Services.
